Microsoft Excel - Tip # 3: To Move (or Copy) a Column (or Row) Inbetween Another Column (or Row)

It is not necessary to create a new (blank) column or row in order to achieve this. First, select the column(s) or row(s) that need to be moved. Hold down the SHIFT key. (To copy, hold down both the SHIFT and CTRL keys.) Position the mouse pointer over the border of the selection - the mouse indicator should be a 'pointer'. Click and hold and DRAG in between the required two columns or rows. The new position to where the column/row data is moving is displayed as either a vertical or horizontal line. In the example below, Column H is being moved inbetween columns E and F. Finally, release the SHIFT key.

This method can also be used to either move or copy a block of cells. If a range in a column of data has been entered incorrectly, this is a quick method of correcting the data entry. Follow the instructions above, but instead of selecting a column or row, select a block of cells. In the example below, the range H3:H9 has been selected and is being moved inbetween columns E and F to the range F3:F9.
